Chukwuemeka

Death is a necessary end but a particular type of death is just horrible and brings with it not just sadness but agony and deep pain to those left behind.

If I feel the way I do about this unfortunate incident, I wonder how those directly affected must feel.

His suicide note read, I do not mean to judge or blame anyone but I strongly believe that if just one loved one had paid close attention, it would have been a different situation.

I have sons and I never want to imagine that any of them should be depressed and more so I miss the signs. That would kill me too. God forbid.

Parenting doesn't get easier I must say, sometimes I wish I can get into the minds of my boys and see everything in there. I wish Chukwuemeka opened up to someone, I wish he was found before he passed, I wish he didn't take his life I just wish and can't stop wishing.

Our job as parents or guardians does not end in producing academically sound children, it is a holistic venture and the aim should be to present to the world a balanced adult. While we encourage our children to study we should also encourage them to mix up, make friends,  enjoy parties and love the outdoors.

Everything should be in moderation and no child should be isolated from other children. No child should be made to feel more or less important than the others. It's all about striking a balance.

Praying for children is not just important, it must become a chronic habit for the devil may strike at any time.

Parenting or guardianship is a full time job and with the increase in number of young people who suffer from depression the job gets even tougher.

It is no longer a sickness for Caucasians as we like to think, it has found its way into our midst and everyone should definitely watch out for this rising menace to the society.

Rest in Peace Chukwuemeka! You gained more friends in death, Fame at last!! Did you find that which you couldn't find here?

  2. Mental illness is a huge are which we still need to pay close attention to in Nigeria. Stigma makes it difficult for thoes who want to seek help, not to. Creating awareness and changing the societal view about mental illness will make a change.

  7. Indeed very sad. Mental Health issue are swept under the carpet even when the signs are there. Akachis case was a case of depression that is treatable hovwever, nobodyhovwever picked the signs to give him d help he needed from the right source. There is need for parents to maintain a very healthy relationship with thier kids and pick any sign timely not normal then seek help from d right source rather than the spiritual houses. There is indeed need for more awareness on mental health issues.
