Happy Birthday to Me!!!!!!!!

Why do women put on make-up? This question keeps coming to my mind and I do not seem to have the answers or I don’t like the answers I keep getting. Do women really make up to look more beautiful, build self confidence, be noticed, to look rich or attract men?

I am definitely not the make-up kind of girl, I can go to church, work, mall, meetings and anywhere at all without any make-up, I still do not know how I am able to do it because I am not exactly Miss. Nigeria; but I love the freedom of being able to get off the shower, use my deodorants, throw some clothes on and hit the road.

I do make up sometimes and so that is why I know that it is freedom to be able to just go without being tied down by coloured pencils, crayons, markers and coloured powders. For those who do the real make up – foundation, eye brows, lashes, contour, eye liners, lip liners and lipstick, it will not take anything less than an hour if not more. Sometimes, it feels like time wasting to me except there is no timeline. I don’t want to wake up at 5am for Sunday Mass that will start at 9am just because I need ample time for make-up, nope, I want to wake up at 8am and leave home at 8:45am.

I admire those who apply make-up all the time because I really believe it is part of personal grooming and a woman should never be caught unawares, but if it gets to the point where a woman wakes up at 4am everyday to put on make-up before the husband wakes, then that becomes a major problem. What I do not like is when women do not apply the make-up right, especially with the new eyebrow craze, some draw theirs to look like a chicken’s finger, and some people join the eyebrows in the middle. Lol. When I see a woman whose face is well made up, it gives me joy that someone is representing people like us who are too lazy to bother.

I put on light make-up most times when my face is tired and this means loose powder(white or brown), eye liner and lip gloss but I removed eyeliner from the equation because it kept my eyes black for at least one week. I added eye brows to my Sunday make-up but I will remove it soon because it takes me over fifteen minutes to make mine look a tiny little bit close to what I see on the experts. Then when I really want a "big gurl’s" look, I call the experts, but hubby would always say that I look like a masquerade, he doesn’t like make-up, (Is that not what they all say?) yet they admire the next girl they see wearing make-up.

I turn the big 4 0 today and my face is made up nicely even though hubby has said I look like a masquerade again, hahahahahahaha.

Forty always seemed so far away, like it would never come, I looked forward to it, I wanted a big party with all the glitz and glam, I wanted so many things to happen which didn’t happen, I had a lot of hopes, dreams and aspirations; I also had a lot of fears, I feared that I may not see forty.

No, life hasn’t thrown me a lot of lemons but I have had my fair share of challenges. I hoped I would be a size 10 by the time I hit forty  but I think I am at my fattest, I thought I would be a billionaire but I still count my money many zeros less than billion. However; I am super grateful to God for life, I am still here, I can still reason, many have gone bonkers, I am not on a lonely hospital bed and being fed through tubes, that is why I am fat, I can eat whatever I want, whenever  and however. I sleep and wake up, surrounded by those who love me and those that I love.

My voice isn’t the best but I can still sing, my moves may not be the best, but I am a stepper in my own right, I may be orobo but I am as fit as fiddle, I still do my cat wheels, some flips and a bit of sprinting. I really love to live now and laughter matters more to me than any other thing. I have earned the right to use certain phrases when I speak, e.g, “Not at my age” “In my lifetime” “How dare you?” “At my age?” “You don’t speak when I speak” (I wonder who I will say this to)

I gave myself a birthday treat, I mean it is trending now, photo shoots for birthdays, and as usual, hubby says I don’t look like his wife, lol, let it be; I love me like this. The only problem is that I don’t know how not to look like this for the rest of my life.

I almost did not wash my face off; I wish this was a mask so I would take it off and then wear it as often as I would want to. I am tempted to post the before make-up pictures but scared that some mischievous people could use my picture for those wicked memes.

So here I am at forty, Bold, Beautiful, Smart, Happy and Positive! And heavily made up! Teeheehee Happy Birthday to Me, Nwamaka, Lilea Amanda Nwosisi, daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend. a.k.a  AdaJesus, Amybekee, Enenebeejeolu, Tomato Jos, AmyLondon, AmySouth, AmyAmerica. My only regret is that I won't hear mum's voice, saying to me "oh nne"
