Another Occupy

The year 2012 will forever be one of my best years and I will tell you why. It was the year when we were asked to occupy Nigeria, an exercise which was particularly very successful in Lagos state.  It was a compulsory leave for those of us who were gainfully employed; and the best kind of leave because everywhere was on a lock down here in Lagos; it was either your home or your home.

The Christmas season had just ended and as people got ready to go back to work, the order came to stay off work to protest the removal of oil subsidy.

While some obeyed for the sake of a cause that they believed in, I obeyed because I could rest some more from waking up early and I even prayed that it would go on much longer.

The markets and offices were all locked and so the only thing that one had to do was stay home and keep busy.

People kept busy by cooking, reading, exercising, or even working from home. It was ascertained that the busiest room in most homes then was the bedroom.

  • The protest did not only achieve its direct aim of the cancellation of the removal of subsidy, it also recorded a great number of indirect successes.

Some wives were happy to have their wayward husband's all to themselves for a whole week to the annoyance of the side chics.

Many wives got their grooves back after several years of being rejected.

The "always tired" wives suddenly ran out of excuses.

Hubby who had hung his boots for eight years then unhung them and the wrapper I had tied so strongly for eight good years just got loose and as hard as I tried to fasten the loose ends, they just wouldn't stay.

The result of the subsidy strike is the fruit that I celebrate today. While people occupied the streets, Victor and I occupied our bed.

An appropriate name would have been "Mmelisubsidy"(Subsidy's victory). Lol

I can't believe it's already five years since that Occupy Nigeria protest and guess what's on my mind..., another occupy. Hehehe

My subsidy baby is five years old today and to me this is a good example of making the best out of a bad situation.

Happy Birthday KaoranunaChukwudimma Jason (Subsidy) Nwosisi. May God keep blessing you my special child. We love you so much!
