I'll vent anyway

I am angry, livid and burning with rage. This country has failed us and I am tired of saying that it is well. It is not well, no it is not! God will not come down from heaven to save us, our leaders who He put in charge of us have failed us woefully. It is the same story South, East, North or West.

The system is broken down completely, absolutely nothing works, the poor are getting poorer and more wretched. People live like pigs, I've been visiting slums lately and the state in which human beings live is appalling, our government is sleeping.

I went to Mushin Lagos recently and wept at how some people live, why should people still live in face me I face you and share toilets and bathrooms? Someone who lives in a similar place said to me, you don't take your toothbrush to the bathroom because if it falls on the floor, you forget it.  Shame on our leaders.

Our past and present leaders should be ashamed of themselves,  they are all very wicked and have failed us woefully!

The hospitals are not well equipped, I spent a week with my darling father in the teaching hospital in Enugu and almost fell ill myself; dirty environment, overgrown lawns, leaking roofs, stinking toilets and cows had taken over a part of the place. Getting drugs from the pharmacy was a nightmare and a few times one had to bribe to be attended to.

Our roads are bad, a certain bridge in Lagos is on the verge of cutting in two, I've simply stopped plying the route so I'm not sure if the authorities have done the needful. More than half of the time, accidents are as a result of bad roads; I know because I'm a chronic road traveller.

The public schools in every state in Nigeria are crap, nonsense, no windows, no chairs, dirty, unpainted walls and dome have even been taken over by cattle. Most of the teachers are not qualified and most of the students turn out as hooligans, was it not the other day that secondary school boys raped their female mates in broad day light? The good teachers seek employment in private schools that will pay them well and also never owe them.

Our prisons are like a death sentence, I took care of a prisoner in my University days, I would use my whole pocket money to buy provisions for this young chap who was in prison then for being at a place at the wrong time.

He was even a juvenile but he was inmate with hardened criminals. He had scabies all over his body and I kept buying disinfectant and antiseptic soaps for him. The government may be providing those things but they don't get to the inmates and those who do not have benefactors wallow in diseases, pains and neglect.

My LLM thesis was on rights of disabled prisoners, it made me research on our prisons. A good number of people have been awaiting trial for years and years. Failed legal system! Shame Nigeria Shame!

Just take a trip to a police station in any part of the country, walls are dirty, no cleaners and the cells smell. The pot bellied DPOs sit in their offices and order the lower ranks around. The police men and women actually beg you for money.

Shame on you past Inspector Generals of Police, shame on you for not taking care of your men and women. No proper training, remuneration, welfare and adequate arms yet you want them to catch the bad guys. They die like chickens in the hands of the men of the underworld.

I weep for my country!

Who has ever visited the police barracks? Oh my goodness, one of the dirtiest places on planet earth, these men and women and their spouses live like paupers yet their superiors expect them not to take bribe or extort money from people.

When I reported a case of theft by a domestic staff, the officer in charge asked me to drop money just for making a report? Of course I ignored HER. "Bail is free" is only for the posters on the wall not in reality.  I give money to these law enforcement officers whenever I'm able to and at some point two policemen became my responsibilities.

They are hungry especially the ones on the road and need to be taken care of. Next time they harass you please know that it is out of desperation.

Army, whosai! They only respect their own, trained to protect only their colleagues but bully the civilian, I watched in shock sometime ago in traffic as a common recruit broke a woman's side mirror just because he couldn't maneuver through her own side of the road. They are perfect in clearing the road for their ogas while they try to reach their destinations whether urgent or not, disturbing our peace with sirens. Same story for the rest, Navy, Air Force etc.

What really works in Nigeria? Nothing! Roads are bad, no water, no constant electricity, no jobs, nothing. The smart ones are unemployed, the stupid ones have jobs, (much respect to the smart men and women holding it up in the corporate world, private and public sectors) no wonder the economy is epileptic. Those who do the real jobs are owed salary while the government fighters and time wasters earn the big money.

The stupid principle of federal character is laughable, The tribes hate each other and the different  religions cannot tolerate each other. People kill each other everyday. Why won't people get employed based on merit and not on ethnic consideration or the unfortunate quota system.

Ritual killers everywhere, jungle justice which has taken the lives of innocent people. People live in fear and so they are leaving, relocating to other countries.  Our best brains in medicine are saving lives in other nations who appreciate them more than we do.

They are in countries where the government pays them promptly and make them live their best lives.

Here, the teachers are owed, the doctors are owed, street/road cleaners are even owed, Shame on you governors who owe your workers. What you give will surely come back to you. God will visit generations after you with repercussions for your sins if you do not turn from your evil ways.

Health centres are filled with staff who are more interested in selling puff puff than the babies' well being.

When you return from a holiday, you get depressed as soon as you step into our airport, chaos, noise and unorganised system of running things. Then immigration and custom plus NDLEA start to ask you for money. Tufiakwa!

Nigeria is a big mess, it has been this way for a very long time. Other nations get better with age but Nigeria is growing backwards. I hate our leaders for not doing the right things.

I just want to vent and this is not the end! I still have a lot to say and I don't expect any results from this but I'll vent anyway!!!
